Angular Momentum Population in Projectile Fragmentation

چکیده
Abstract. Isomeric states in neutron-deficient nuclei around A≈190 have been identified following the projectile fragmentation of a relativistic energy 238U beam. The deduced isomeric ratios are compared with a model based on the abrasion-ablation description. The experimental isomeric ratios are lower by a factor of ≈2 than the calculated ones assuming the ‘sharp cutoff’ approximation. The observation of the previously reported isomeric I π=43/2− state in 215Ra represents the current record for the highest discrete spin state observed following a projectile fragmentation reaction.

متن کاملProjectile Fragmentation of 129 Xe at E Lab =790 A·mev
We have measured production yields and longitudinal momentum distributions of projectile-like fragments in the reaction 129 Xe + 27 Al at an energy of E lab =790 A·MeV. Production cross sections higher than expected from sys-tematics were observed for nuclei in the neutron-deficient tails of the isotopic distributions. A comparison with previously measured data from the fragmentation of 136 Xe ...
متن کاملTarget excitation and angular momentum transfer in reactions of E/A=11.9 MeV 28Si with 181Ta from 4 pi charged particle, neutron, and gamma -ray multiplicity measurements.
The conversion of kinetic energy into target-like fragment excitation and orbital angular momentum into fragment spin has been studied in the reaction 333 MeV Si with ' 'Ta. The light charged particles were detected in a small, highly segmented, 4m phoswich detector system placed in the spin spectrometer, a 4m NaI array which served as a neutron and gamma detector. Multiplicities of light charg...
متن کاملProjectile deformation effects on single-nucleon removal reactions
We discuss intermediate-energy single-nucleon removal reactions from deformed projectile nuclei. The removed nucleon is assumed to originate from a given Nilsson model single-particle state and the inclusive cross sections, to all rotational states of the residual nucleus, are calculated. We investigate the sensitivity of both the stripping cross sections and their momentum distributions to the...
متن کاملSystematic investigation of the spectator response to the participant blast in the reactions Au+Al, Au at 0.5 A GeV and Au+Au at 1.0 A GeV
Recent theoretical work [1] suggested the longitudinal velocities of the fragmentation residues produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions as an observable sensitive to the momentum dependent (MD) properties of the nuclear mean field (MF). Under certain conditions, the spectator remnant can acquire on average even a positive momentum during the collision This phenomenon has been named specta...
